Dr. Childs awarded the Distinguished Service Medal by the United States Public Health Service

Capt. Richard Childs was awarded the Distinguished Service Medal at the 2010 NIH Director's Awards Ceremony. The Distinguished Service Medal is the highest honor awarded by the United States Public Health Service Commissioned Corps. It is presented to an officer who has demonstrated a genuine sense of public service by making exceptional contributions to the mission of the PHS. Achievements to be recognized may range from extraordinary management of a major health program to a heroic act.

Dr. Childs was presented the honor for "outstanding contribution to the mission of the United States Public Health Service by pioneering revolutionary advances in the field of bone marrow transplantation."
